Orion on board with the launch of Christchurch Monopoly
Orion is thrilled to be joining the fun with the launch of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s very own edition of Monopoly.
The Ōtautahi Christchurch Monopoly edition marks the fourth New Zealand iteration of the popular board game, joining Auckland, Wellington and the Southland region. Monopoly has been played by an estimated one billion people in 114 countries and 47 languages since it was first released in 1935.
As the electricity network for Christchurch and the central Canterbury region, Orion appears on the board as the local utilities provider. Fellow CCHL subsidiary companies Christchurch International Airport Ltd and Lyttelton Port Company are also included under the transport category.
Orion also features in Community Chest, with a card to charge your EV on the Orion network receive 100 Monopoly dollars.
“Monopoly is an iconic game that’s led to many a heated showdown around the family dinner table. We’re really proud to be sitting on the board as an essential service for our region, and to be sitting alongside some iconic landmarks and institutions of Ōtautahi-Christchurch,” says Orion Head of Customer and Communications Paul Deavoll.
“I think Cantabrians will feel a sense of pride when they see so many familiar Christchurch hot spots represented in Monopoly form.”
As part of the celebrations, the Orion office was treated to a visit by Mr Monopoly himself ahead of the official launch of the game.
