All customers now have power

All 19 households in the Long Bay Road area have now had their power restored. Orion would like to thank everyone in this community for their patience while the work was completed.

Hickory Bay Outage today to enable more repairs

Orion advises that there will be a power outage today for all 19 impacted customers in the Long Bay Road area while it continues temporary repairs to the damaged power network.

The outage will be from @ 9:30am to late in the day while Orion crews reinstate two power poles that were downed by the recent landslides, weather permitting.

Once today’s repairs are completed and the new poles are in place, Orion will be able to restore power to all 19 households.

While the current repairs Orion is making to its network in the area are temporary, it is confident it can maintain the power supply until its crews can gain better access for longer term repairs, once the roads accessing the area are reinstated.

UPDATE: Monday 20 December, 7.35pm

Orion has restored power to 16 customers tonight.

There are three remaining customers in the area who remain without power. Restoring power to these people will take a little longer given the complexity of the damage to the network supplying these customers and the surrounding ground.

Orion will continue to work on this tomorrow, and possibly through the week.

Orion crews working to restore power

Over weekend Orion undertook preparatory works, ready to do temporary repairs on Monday to restore the power, until such time as access is possible to enable long term repairs to be undertaken.

Orion has crews on site now – helicoptered in - and expects to have the power back on for the majority of the 19 customers by the end of today, Monday. This is dependent on weather conditions permitting this afternoon.

UPDATE: Saturday 18 December, 11:35am

We were able assess the situation from a helicopter yesterday, and we have established that poles are down in Goughs Rd due to substantial slips, and will need to be replaced.

We have been able to restore power to 11 customers in Hickory Bay last night, and develop our restoration plan for repairing the lines to the remaining 19 customers in the area without power.

Over this weekend we will be doing preparatory works to reinstate the poles, and get ready to do temporary repairs on Monday to reinstate the power, until such time as access has been restored to enable long term repairs to be undertaken.

Orion confirms that 30 customers remain without power in Hickory Bay, Banks Peninsula, as a result of this week's rain storm.

Efforts to identify the issue and repair lines in the area have been hampered by landslides on Long Bay Road which is the sole road access to the area.

Customers in these roads are affected: Long Bay Rd, Hickory Bay Rd, Goughs Rd, Paua Bay Rd, Fishermans Bay Rd.

Stuart Kilduff, Orion Operations Manager says residents should be prepared to be without power in the Bay for some time.

“Until contractors clear the road and our crews can get in there to identify what has caused the outage, unfortunately we are unable to give an indication of when we will be able to get the power back on.

“As soon as we can get into the Bay to assess the damage, and work out what’s needed, we will let residents know how quickly we can get the power back on.

“We’re sorry we can’t get in there sooner, and have crews on standby, ready to get in there as soon as we are able to,” says Kilduff.
